Schools Education Programme Plants are amazing. There are over 400 000 different plants that we
know about in the world today.
The plant kingdom includes the tallest, heaviest and oldest living things
on our planet. Another amazing fact is that plants produce their own
food and without them there would be no life on our planet. Imagine
living in a city that did not have a single plant in it. However, we live in
an age that is fast losing its connection to the natural world.
More people than ever before now live in cities around the world.
Investigating the wonders of the plant kingdom offers an unlimited
learning experience for all ages to help people reconnect to the
value of nature in our cities.Learning about plants is essential for the
development of a more environmentally responsible society in which
the threats to biodiversity and key environmental issues such as
climate change are clearly understood and responsibly acted upon.
Botanic gardens across the globe have developed innovative informal,
hands-on learning programmes that enable people to connect plants
to their everyday lives. A botanic gardens is the ideal outdoor living
classroom to learn about plants and their connection to people and life
on our planet.
Plants have intimate connections to all aspects of our lives from the
very air we breathe to food, medicine, shelter and clothing, as well as a
range of spiritual benefits.
