The
DIRTY DURBAN Art Work

Local
artist Jenny Cullinan is calling on all the people of the
eThekwini metropole to take a photo of litter pollution
in our city. These photos will make up a collaborative artwork
which will be part of the Durban Botanic Gardens
DBG Artworks Art Exhibition on Sunday 9th November 2008.
“I
want to create a forum for ordinary people to express how
they feel about our city’s growing reputation as the
dirt bin of South Africa. I also want people to send in
their ideas about how we can actively reclaim our status
as a clean, beautiful city that is the envy of other cities
across the country.”
People
who want to participate can drop off A4 or smaller, unframed
photo(s) at the Visitors’ Complex in the Durban Botanic
Gardens before the exhibition on the 9 November, or, can
bring their photos to the Gardens on the day.
“I
want to present the photos and suggestions to our mayor,
Obed Mlaba, who is best-placed to motivate all our local
councillors and their communities to create sustainable
community projects focussed on eliminating litter in our
city.
By
this time next year we want to celebrate a cleaner, more
beautiful Durban and by 2010 we want to be seen as the cleanest
city in the country.”
Join us for an informative interactive presentation
and discussion at the Durban Botanic Gardens, when we delve
into the concerns and what can be done about the issue of
global warming and climate change. Dr Debra Roberts, from
the eThekwini Environmental Management Branch and others will
share their ideas about current action responses to address
climate change in South Africa and our City.
Entrance: R10.00. BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL – contact
